Journal Today: Privacy Policy
Last updated November 5, 2026
Journal Today is a private diary, and it is built so that it stays private. We run no server that holds your entries, and we never see what you write.
Your entries stay with you
Entries, photos, videos, voice recordings, moods, tags and your settings are stored on your device and, when you are signed in to iCloud, in your own iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit), which keeps your devices in step. Apple keeps that data under Apple's privacy terms; we cannot read it. Without iCloud, everything stays on the device.
To keep your devices in step, iCloud sends the app silent notifications when another device has changed something. They carry no content.
Passcode and Face ID
The passcode is kept in your device's Keychain. Face ID and Touch ID run on your device through Apple's frameworks; we never receive biometric data or your passcode.
Voice entries
When you record a voice entry, the app uses the microphone only while you record, and only after you allow it. Your words are turned into text on your device by Apple's speech recognition; the recording and the text are kept with the entry.
Photos and Journaling Suggestions
Photos and videos are chosen in the system's photo picker, which gives the app only the items you pick; they are copied into your diary. On iOS 17.2 and later, Apple's Journaling Suggestions can offer the day's photos, places, workouts, music and people in Apple's own picker; the app receives only what you choose to add to an entry.
Reminders, widgets, Shortcuts and Siri
The daily reminder is a notification scheduled on your device. Widgets show your streak and On This Day from data on your device. Shortcuts and Siri run on your device; a spoken request is handled by Apple under Apple's terms.
Backups, import, export and sharing
Backups and exports (a zip file, a PDF or text) are made on your device and go only where you save or send them, and an import reads only the file you choose. Sharing an entry uses the system share sheet; what you share goes only where you send it.
What we do not do
- No account or sign-up.
- No advertising, no tracking, no selling or sharing of data.
- No analytics that identify you. The app talks only to Apple's services (iCloud and the App Store).
Purchases
Pro is sold through the App Store under Apple's terms; we receive no payment details. Subscriptions renew automatically and can be cancelled in your Apple Account settings.
Deleting your data
Deleting an entry moves it to the Trash, where you can restore it or delete it for good; deleting it for good removes it from all your devices and from your iCloud account. Deleting the app removes its data from the device; your iCloud data can be managed in Settings → your name → iCloud.
Children
Journal Today is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
